SysReforms International successfully designed and developed Ocean Monitor, an offline mobile application supporting the Moana Project of the Pacific Community (SPC), a regional initiative advancing climate monitoring and sustainable fisheries management across Pacific Island nations. The app enables fishers, scientists, and field teams to connect with ZebraTech’s Deck Units via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to retrieve sub-surface temperature and depth data, decode it into readable formats, and visualize it through 2intuitive charts, all without requiring internet connectivity. Built with an offline-first architecture, the solution ensures data synchronization with SPC servers whenever connectivity becomes available. Designed for both iOS and Android, it is optimized for low-power maritime environments and simplified usability in field conditions. Key features include offline data collection and visualization, integration with BLE protocols, secure pairing through ZebraTech Deck Unit serial authentication, encrypted data transmission, interactive visualizations using Chart.js and D3.js, and automatic synchronization with SPC’s central servers. The solution empowers users to access and interpret oceanographic data in real time, enhances SPC’s capacity to gather accurate and accessible data for fisheries management and climate resilience, and strengthens the Fishing Vessel Ocean Observing Network (FVON) initiative by converting raw sensor data into actionable insights advancing data-driven ocean monitoring and bridging technology, sustainability, and climate science across the Pacific region.
